An Engagement Ring Purchase Has More Options Than Ever
The practice of presenting a woman with an engagement ring is hardly a new one. But ladies, while you’re sporting your new rock, what visible sign does your new fiancée wear on his finger to show that he is betrothed to you?
The practice of buying a male engagement ring, or man-gagement ring, is a common one in many countries, but only just starting to catch on in North America. Rather than being purchased prior to the engagement, and presented at the time of “popping the question”, the typical man-gagement ring is bought by the partner after she has accepted a proposal of marriage, as a gift for her future husband, and to match her engagement ring.
Now, no one is suggesting that you ladies should rush out and buy him a diamond to match your own. He probably doesn’t want to wear such a big stone, and he would hate to take the attention away from your own new ring. He would be more likely to appreciate a simple, understated ring – that’s where titanium comes in.
Titanium is known as the “space age” metal, having been used on the space shuttle, satellites and spy planes. It is extremely light, very strong and durable, and is completely inert when it comes to irritations on the skin. These rings come in a variety of colors and sizes, and you should have no problem finding a design that would match his personality.
Of course, there’s the question of what finger he should wear his man-gagement ring on. Common practice is for the man to wear his new ring on the ring finger of his left hand – and replace it with his wedding band on his wedding day. It is a great way for a man who may not be used to wearing much jewellery accustomed to having a regular piece on his finger. And of course, it serves well to warn other women – watch out, this one is taken!
Take into consideration, your fiancée will probably never ask for a man-gagement ring. He would probably feel a little self-conscious asking his wife-to-be to buy him a gift. But don’t let his reluctance to ask deter you in the least. He will likely be thrilled at the thought you have put into the gift, and will be proud to display to the world that he is engaged to such a caring partner.
So, after the shock and excitement wears off a little, consider returning the favor to your fiancée, and surprising him with an engagement ring of his own.
