Choosing a Moissanite Engagement Ring Over a Diamond
Moissanite is becoming a new trend. People are breaking out of tradition and moving away from the pressure to buy a diamond. Diamonds are beautiful and gorgeous, but why the hype? Why does it have to be a diamond engagement ring? Many ladies these days are choosing sapphire, ruby, emerald, and even moissanite as a choice to an engagement ring. Although it has been a tradition to choose diamonds, diamond marketing has definitely impacted people’s purchasing choices.
Many people have the wrong information about moissanite and think it is a fake diamond. Moissanite is not a fake diamond at all. In fact, moissanite is actually a rare mineral. It is so rare, that it has to be made in a lab just like most other gemstones. Just because it is made in a lab does not mean it is any less special. This mineral is so rare that it does not make sense to call it a diamond substitute. Should it not be the opposite? Shouldn’t diamonds be considered the moissanite substitute since it is so rare unlike diamonds?
Moissanite is actually more brilliant than diamonds. The refractive index is higher, which in laymen’s terms means the gemstone is more brilliant and sparkly. This gemstone is generally colorless and will receive many compliments. As with any stone, the quality of stone that is purchased can affect the appearance. A lower grade moissanite could appear yellow in certain light, just like how a lower grade diamond can appear dull. For the price, a really nice moissanite can cost the same as a dull diamond.
There is nothing to be ashamed of to not follow tradition. Breaking out and making choices that are best for a couple is what matters. The most important part of an engagement ring is who it came from, not what the stone is. It is also important to not go in debt over a ring purchase just for the sake of tradition.
